Deborah is an enthusiastic and empathetic school counselor who creates a warm, welcoming environment where students feel safe, valued, and heard. She believes that every child deserves to feel a sense of belonging at school and works to ensure students have the tools they need to manage emotions, navigate stress, and build confidence.
Deborah specializes in supporting children and adolescents who experience challenges with emotional regulation, anxiety, stress, and classroom behaviors. She provides individualized support, small groups, and classroom-based social-emotional learning opportunities. Her office is designed as a calming space where students can ground, decompress, and safely process their thoughts and feelings.
For the past three years, Deborah has incorporated animal-assisted support into her work through Prince, her three-and-a-half-year-old lop-eared comfort bunny. Prince attends school three times a week and plays a gentle role in helping students co-regulate, practice calming strategies, and feel more at ease.
Deborah holds a Master’s degree from the University of Northern Colorado and is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the state of Colorado. With over 30 years of experience as a mental health professional, she brings extensive
knowledge and compassion to her work. She has specialized training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), DBT-informed skills, trauma-informed practices, and solution-focused counseling.
Students can access Deborah by requesting to see her directly, placing a note in the request box outside her office or in the front office, or through staff or parent referral. She facilitates “Lunch Bunch” groups to promote peer connection, friendship skills, and social growth. Deborah also runs the WEB (Where Everybody Belongs) Leader Program, helping train and support student leaders as they welcome and mentor peers to foster connection and a strong sense of community. In addition, she oversees the Move This World affective education program to support schoolwide emotional development and well-being.
Outside of school, Deborah enjoys road biking, hiking, boating, traveling, spending time with family and friends, and walking her Goldendoodle.
Deborah looks forward to partnering with families and staff to ensure every student feels supported, connected, and empowered to succeed.
